What is higher that the Empire State Building? Probably the cost of living in NYC!
According to the Council for Community and Economic Research, New York City ranks as the most expensive city in the United States. The council estimated that New York City has a 225.4 cost of living index, meaning that Manhattanites pay upwards of twice the national average when it comes to everyday living expenses.
Take a look at the cost of living in NYC below.
Just FYI, in March 2015, the cost of a single subway or bus ride was raised from $2.50 to $2.75; the cost of a seven-day unlimited MetroCard from $30 to $31; and the cost of a monthly unlimited MetroCard from $112 to $116.50.

Although the cost of living in NYC is extremely high, you can find still find cheap food to eat and enjoy free activities around the city.
